Why you should have an asymmetric shaped wedding bouquet

If you’re thinking of ordering or making your wedding bouquet, choosing your wedding bouquet shape is a part of that decision making process.

Have you been pinning images and you’re torn between a round bouquet or an asymmetrical one?

When it comes to your wedding flowers, the colours and textures are something to decide on but so are the shapes of the designs. The shapes help to add to the feel of the wedding and asymmetry leans more towards a relaxed and laid back wedding feel.

Here are 5 reasons why an asymmetric shaped bridal bouquet might be the one for you…

1. An asymmetric bouquet shape creates that wild floral meadow look because it mimics how flowers grow in nature. Beautiful meadow daisies, poppies and corn flowers all shoot from the ground at different heights and angles, so if the flowers in your bouquet are doing this too, then that whimsical wildness will be achieved.

2. The bouquet draws your eye from one side of the design to the other because of the angles of the stems. This movement works so well with your whole wedding look, including your hair and dress, because your bouquet isn’t a solid round block the shape of a full stop, instead it’s full of life and movement. When you walk holding your bouquet, the loose nature of the flowers allows them to moves as you do, rather than being rigid.

3. If you're making your own bouquet, asymmetry is a very forgiving shape because nothing needs to be perfectly aligned in a round dome. You can celebrate the natural imperfections in the flowers and leaves and place flowers high and low in the design. Lighter longer stems catch the light and heavier flowers can be placed lower within the bouquet. If you want to highlight a particular flower, it can be lifted so it’s seen more as though it’s emerging from the bouquet to open.

4. Adding depth and height to your bouquet creates intrigue as not all the flowers are at the surface. If some florals are nestled slightly behind others, then more time will be taken to look at and enjoy the flowers.

5. When you're finished holding your bouquet for photos, it can go in a vase on the table (it’s always great to use your wedding flowers twice, read more about that here) the asymmetric shape looks amazing in a vase because it's got so much movement to it. Also, you don’t have to think too much and can just pop your bouquet in the vase and anyway it falls in there will look great because there’s no symmetry to the look or a perfect way for it to be placed.

So that’s some food for thought, do you think the asymmetry of a wedding bouquet is the one for you? Let me know in the comments if you’ve got any questions about choosing which wedding bouquet to have.
