Old glass bottles for a Halloween table centre
Using flowers grown in the garden this October, I created this Halloween table centre with ‘poison’ bottle decorations and a purple and white floral theme. A table centre fit for a Halloween dinner party or to decorate the coffee table in the lead up to Halloween. Seasonal and natural decor to avoid plastic this pumpkin season, and instead opt for reusable glass bottles and flowers that can be composted afterwards. These table decorations would also be perfect for a Halloween wedding and your DIYing the flowers yourself.
Take a look at the simple how-to below
To make the bottle labels I tea stained labels and used a black pen for the calligraphy and underline twirls. I’ve had these bottles for a couple of years now, in the Halloween decoration box, and they always make an appearance for spooky season. You can find old vintage glass bottles in charity shops, at car boot sales or on online marketplaces. The labels I used were simple address label and then I distressed them slightly by peeling them and crumpling them when they stuck to the glass bottles.
For the flowers, I chose to go for a purple and white theme for a Halloween look. But you could also go down the Autumnal route and use reds, oranges and dried seed heads and leaves. Perfect for a decayed Halloween style tablescape. The flowers I used were scabiosa, cosmos and little chive flowers, along with eucalyptus leaves which create a beautiful drape effect.
Cut your flowers and place them into the bottles at different heights. If you have a particularly short squat bottle, like I did here, it’s nice to keep some of the flowers low and nestled into the foliage to draw the eye in and keep the centre of gravity in the design low.
If some of the flowers have holes in the petals, this only adds to that Halloween feel as the flowers wither and the table centre designs take on a Miss Havisham feel to them. You could also arrange little gourds or pumpkins around the bottles too and add to the Autumnal seasonal look.
Change the water in the bottles every couple of days to help the flowers last longer. And keep the flowers away from heat and bowls of fruit so they can stay fresher.
