A Cranberry Red Wedding in Sussex with Hollywood Curls

Lydia and Steve’s December wedding was a Wintery day filled with Cranberry tones and warm vintage colours.

On a wedding day, I deliver and style all the wedding flowers in the morning and arrive amidst a cloud of hairspray in the air and when the first champagne glasses of the day are clinking. I'm usually long gone before the ceremony begins, so getting to see how the day unfolds in photographs is always a real treat. I've selected some of the wedding photos so you can see Lydia and Steve's day too. Lydia and Steve's photos were taken by D&A Photography.

The getting ready room was full of excitement and hair pinned up in curls. I brought in boxes of hair flowers and buttonholes made up of little delicate leaves, wax flowers and small cashmere tone rose buds. Lydia had a floral slide in her hair with her gorgeous Hollywood curls.

The bridal bouquet was full of the colours and flowers of the wedding. The flowers we went for in the bouquet were deep red black baccara roses, red naomi roses, red ranunculus, wax flower, black vibernum berries, cashmere coloured roses and french ruscus and eucalyptus foliage. I created the bouquet using a central core of densely arranged flowers with elegant and long foliage stems drawing the eye outwards, creating a more wild, natural and rustic look.

Steve’s buttonhole reflected the colour palette of Lydia’s bouquet and I used the same flower varieties to connect the two together visually.

Lydia and Steve's ceremony room was classic and white and I made the long and low ceremony arrangement full of deep greens and vibrant reds to pop against the clear and fresh backdrop. I filled their long and low table arrangement with flowers in shades of cranberry red, burgundy and paler pinks and soft peach tones.

On the morning of the wedding Steve and his groomsmen where busy setting out the tables, favours and assembling the wedding cake. I used flowers to fill inbetween each tier of the wedding cake once Steve had masterfully built the cake structure.

The wedding breakfast tables each had a wreath in the centre filled with eucalyptus, black baccara roses, astrantia and a touch of blue spruce. The couple are both graphic designers so their day was impeccably styled and the stationery for the menus, place names and tables had the personal touch. The wedding took place just before Christmas and when the day drew to a close, the wreaths on the tables were given as gifts for guests to hang on their doors at home.

The bridesmaids wore gorgeous cranberry red dresses tied in different styles. Bridesmaid dresses are the perfect way to bring your colour palette into your wedding because your girls will be walking down the aisle ahead of you, on the dance floor religiously, chatting away to everyone during canapés and snapped in so many of your photos.

What a gorgeous day with non stop smiles and so much laughter.
